Its active ingredients are terpenoids (ses- quiterpenes), flavonoids (including quercitina and its derivatives such as quercitina-3-mono-gluco- side and quercitina-3-glycogacturon), expensive-tenoids , essential oil, phenylcarboxylic acid, among others. The anti-inflammatory activity of arnica is attributed to the presence of ses-quiterpene lactone of the helenaline type. This activity is related to inhibition of activation of transcription factor NF kappa ß.

A comparative study of the anti-inflammatory activity of Arnica Montana tincture in solution and betamethasone corticosteroid showed that Arnica was effective, showing no difference Significant.
